The team at Drewton's Farm Shop near South Cave in East Yorkshire is celebrating after learning that its entries in a national competition to find the best, homemade burgers in England have won not one, but two, coveted awards – Gold and Silver!
England's Best Burger Challenge 2012 is an annual competition run by EBLEX, the organisation for beef and lamb levy payers in England. EBLEX is part of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, and its role is to enhance the profitability and sustainability of the English beef and lamb sector.
This week, Katie Taylor, who owns and runs Drewton's, learned that her Lamb and Mint Burger has scooped a Gold award and her Steak Burger has received a Silver award. Both are produced by Katie's skilled and experienced team of in-house butchers using the finest cuts of meat sourced from local farms.
She said: "To win Gold and Silver in such a high profile, national competition is fantastic news for the entire team. We've always known our burgers are good because they're made to our own recipe using quality meat from cattle and sheep raised by our trusted suppliers at farms here in Yorkshire, but it's fantastic to get endorsement for what we do in such a prestigious competition. I'm thrilled for the entire team, especially our head butcher, John Lund, and his colleagues in our butcher department. It's great to see them recognised for the fantastic job that they do."
